Mezco Toyz One:12 Collective KGBeast Figure Review
Today in the Toyverse, the Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo created character from DC Comics ‘KGBeast’ gets the One:12 treatment from Mezco Toyz,a nd I am very happy to talk about him. I didn’t have much knowledge of the DC villain until the ‘Blackest Night’ run, but once I dug through comic history, I fell in love with the character. This impressive piece from Mezco is a welcome addition to the Bat Family, and I am ready to dive in and talk about him more.
As for the costume and sculpting on KGBeast goes, this is one of Mezco’s finest offerings to date. The costume of red and blue works well, and even though it has a little Mezco flare, for the most part it is a very accurate representation of the comic book character. The cloth goods are made of a good material and the sculpted gun clips, belt, and spiked shoulder pads are a nice touch. It really helps to create a beautiful combo design wise. The three eh ad portraits for KGBeast are a nice set as well. You can display the character in many ways (more on that later,) but you get a KGBeast for many different interpretations of character. My two favorite sculpts are the unmasked head, and the comic book style head. Overall, he has a presence on the shelf or in a photo that makes you really enjoy the figure.
As for the articulation, this figure is not hindered by much of anything. He moves well, and features the standard Mezco articulation at the hands, head, body, legs, and feet. I did have to loosen the feet a little bit, out of fear of breaking them, but after a little hot water, they moved with no issues. The cloth costume on a Mezco does not hinder any movement that I can tell.
As for the accessories, this is where the figure truly shines. In addition to the three head sculpts he comes with seven hands. The right hands are in a variety of different styles. The left hands serve two purposes. One is for a default standard hand use, and the other is to remove them completely from the peg and create the ultimate weapon hand. You get a spear head, two different hammers, and then the machine gun. The machine gun may be the most iconic weapon the character sports and looks awesome. It comes with two magazine clips. He also comes packed in with another handgun with one extra clip, and two extended clips. And if that wasn’t enough, you get a sickle, and machete style sword. One final piece is the eye patch. It can be used however you want to head wise.
Overall, KGBeast is the transformer of the One:12 Collective. He can do anything you can imagine weapon wise. I can only imagine how fun this guy was to create from a concept to final form from the Mezco team. You do get the most bang for your buck with this Mezco piece. I am very happy this character got the proper treatment for comic fans and look forward to more DC villains from Mezco.
