The F.B.I. and Metropolis special crimes unit burst in on a sleeping Kate Spencer. She“s being arrested for Murder, Conspiracy, and terrorism. Only it doesn“t quite go as planned. For you see, Kate has a few tricks up her sleeve and doesn“t like for her sleep to be interrupted! A great introduction to this latest adventure for the man of steel.
The creative team:
Brian Michael Bendis continues his winning ways with the man of Steel. This issue brings us a brand-new villain, or possibly villains, in Leviathan. The mystery of who Leviathan is goes deeper than just a surface enemy who arrives to commit petty crimes. There“s a lot more to this one than meets the eye. As Superman investigates what“s going on, he discovers something closer to home than he cares to think about. Superman and Lois, along with Jimmy Olsen uncover something truly sinister about this new threat, not just to Metropolis, but also Gotham and maybe the world. I enjoyed watching the man of steel unravel some of the facts concerning our new villain and it“s an exciting beginning to a story that could bring us one of the greatest Super villains in the big blue boy scouts“ rogue“s gallery. Great stuff includes the opening fight scene between Leviathan and the S.W.A.T. team also Jimmy Olsen“s revelation concerning Amanda Waller.
Steve Epting brings us some straightforward action panels that make the story move at a grand pace. The opening scene with Metropolis S.W.A.T. team was exhilarating and his command of the man of steel reminds me of the Curt Swan era. I loved how he draws our protagonist as comfortable in the air as he is on the ground. His attention to detail brings us a sense of realism this title needs. I hope he stays with this title for a long time (maybe as long as Swan himself?) Highlights include the introduction of Leviathan and the splash where Superman is carrying Lois over the city.
In Conclusion:
This title gets better with every issue. Just when you didn“t think anything new could be introduced in Superman“s world along comes this juicy little tale which brings about new villains and revelations of characters actions that bring about surprises and intrigue. A great read from a great creative team. **** (9.2 rating)
