REVIEW: Adventure Time #62
Is America’s Next Top Model still on? Though I think it’s more a parody of beauty pageants the parallels between this and the structure of ANTM is obvious and disturbingly accurate. Disturbing for two reasons, one being that I know the format of the show the other being that the insipid nightmare fuel that is ANTM is being used so creatively in this comic.
The pacing is wonderful and I didn’t notice the exposition until just now when I thought about it.
I’ll be honest, it’s Adventure Time, I’m reviewing it because I’m at least a week behind and it’s an easy shot. The story balances whimsy, surreal and horrific like a man spinning three plates only two of them with his little fingers. The art has to follow the show’s style so the skill lies in making the story telling and layouts sparkle, which it does for the most part. There’s a couple of panels that look a bit squeezed in and rushed but fuck it, you’re still going to love some Adventure Time goodness.
There job done, next! 4.2/5
