Review: Analog #3

I am going to start with the biggest spoiler:

Are you ready?

Are you sure?

For the first in the series, Jack McGinnis doesn“t get his face bashed in for an entire issue. I know. You can“t believe it either.

But as daoism teaches us, for every yin, there is a yang. And in this case, Oona is attacked by a bunch of neo-Nazis. It takes eight of them to take her down. By the time they do, only one is left alive.

Jack knows he has to take out the surviving racist before he can describe Oona to the cops. The problem is, Jack is on the clock. He has to deliver a package to the Japanese and let Aunt Sam“s goons make a copy for the government before he gets to the airport. However the Japanese have figured away around the Feds.

While Gerry Duggans“ (Infinity Countdown, Deadpool, Amazing Spider-Man) writing remains on point, David O“Sullivan“s (Crimson Blade) art seems more muddled than in the first two issues. Perhaps it is the work of guest colorist Michael Spicer (Sons of Anarchy, Mythic, Star Wars) that muddies the art in this book. Although I do appreciate O“Sullivan“s addition of all those puppies and their robot dog walkers to distract from all the violence, it does distract from how many of the faces in this book have an extremely flat look.

The creative team continues to have fun with this series, despite having a very serious undertone to the book. I hope that Jordie Bellaire will be returning to the series next issue and return the book to the expected excellence.
