REVIEW: Asterix and the Picts

G’Day Crusaders,

This is Dodgy86 in the mix bringing you Asterix and the Picts by Jean-Yves Ferri with art by Didier Conrad.

Just another day in the Gaul village (modern day France), it is winter. Among the snow, our heroes Asterix and Obelix make a discovery – they find a body frozen encased in ice. Once the body was thawed out and freed from its frozen prison. They find this character a little odd, he is rugged, muscular and covered with blue tattoos. Where is he from? He’s from Caledonia (current day Scotland) and he’s a fish off the hook and needs to get home, will the Gauls help the lost Pict get home?

Being a long-term Asterix fan, this is the first Asterix book without both the creators Goscinny and Udurzo. You’d question the artstyle and the storytelling without the key creators but Ferri and Conrad make you almost feel that Goscinny and Uderzo were still in their prime – I truly enjoyed Conrad’s art especially the big panels which are heavily detailed. In addition to the art, the story have some laugh out loud moments.

For Asterix fans like myself, do ya’self a favor and check it out!
