REVIEW: Black Arrow #1

G“Day Crusaders,

This is Dodgy86 in the mix, bringing you Black Arrow # 1 by Edward L. Sims with art by Donald McQuay and Raymond Leonard. Proudly Produced by Kensai Productions.

Who is the vigilante named The Black Arrow? What connection does he have with The Nine Dragons gang? As this gang terrorize the city, our hero pieces together clues to get to their master – his tactics are questionable. In the meantime, the police ambitiously trying to create peace in their city are inevitably caught in the crossfire!

The story overall is well thought of and well structured. The costume design is awesome. I enjoyed the fact that you as reader get a taste of our hero“s history and his purpose, you hear the voices from the general public, as well as the villains and the police department in the middle of a vigilante and gangland war. The issue I have is the delivery of the story telling ”“ the voice bubbles are misplaced during conversation which is confusing. Some of the dialogue does not seem real especially the scene where the three teenagers encounter a gangsters. The art quality ranges from very good to ordinary within a few panels, it lacked consistency. Lastly, there are a few spelling errors (Yakuza) within the book and these can be fixed. From the first glance it looked like an interesting read, this is not a terrible book to say the least and has a lot of potential. It’s downfall is that it appeared rushed.

I“d wait and see what happens in the next issue.
