Review: Captain Marvel #3

  • In Captain Marvel #3: “RE-ENTRY”,  SHE-HULK joins CAPTAIN MARVEL in her war on Roosevelt Island against the Nuclear Man’s metal man army.
  • If Carol’s going to win this fight, she’ll need an army of friends but the barrier continues to cut them off from the rest of the world.
  • Can she really trust all her allies? And what face from Carol’s past is about to show up and change everything?

As of the writing of this article Brie Larson’s version of the Captain Marvel cosmic warrior has already amassed an estimated worldwide gross of $755 million dollars domestically.  All signs now suggest the superhero origin film will fly past $1 billion at the worldwide box office by the end of its run. So if Marvel believed in its product, surely it make sure the comic is similar in feel to the movie…right?

We open up with Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) falling through the sky, because she lost her powers after coming to the portal where Carol and several other heroes are trapped, luckily Carol was there and fast enough to save the her.

In the second act after the threat has been neutralized, we find out who Som is the son of Nuclear Man, Machus. Now Captain Marvel and the crew don’t trust him, but they have no choice because he is  good fighter and operations planner.  Which is just the skills they need, as they go on  covert operation.  Also a special guest shows up

The thing about Carol Danvers continues to be the fact the situation she is in always seems to be more interest than her actual personality.  Overall the story-line hasn’t been that bad and unfortunately most of the questions I had didn’t get answered. The art was Carmen Carnero had some iconic panels, the lettering; however was unnecessarily loquacious.

Captain Marvel Vol 9 #3 comes in three covers:

Captain Marvel Vol 9 #3 Cover A Regular Amanda Conner Cover
Captain Marvel Vol 9 #3 Cover B Variant Movie Cover
Captain Marvel Vol 9 #3 Cover C Incentive David Mack Variant Cover (1:25)which according to online retailers maybe difficult to find due to high speculator interest.  Apparently they are counting on the 110,000 print numbers for Captain Marvel being  fluke.
