I like Aspen Comics. Â They are producing some great looking comics and have a variety of different books on the shelves, rather than sticking to one particular genre, such as superhero books.
That said, Damsel’s isn’t my kind of book. I don’t think it’s aimed at me but hey, that’s why there are 57 varieties right?
Written and created by Vince Hernandez with art by Mirka Andolfo , the book follows a pair of sisters, a talking unicorn and a variety of characters as they seek to remove the queen….I think. Â There is a lot going on with the main thrust of the story interlaced with interruptions reminds me of trying to have two conversations at the same time. Some of these are funny, Arnen in particular, but for the most part serves to distract. The art, which starts out cute albeit with a touch of Manga thrown in, soon, for me at least becomes a tad annoying.
As said, I am probably not the target audience for this book, so I kinda feel bad reviewing it. I want to be fair, but I don’t like this sort of book, so please bear that in mind if judging whether to buy it. However, if you have a little princess of your own who is looking for a positive female lead story without half-naked women, with a bit of  a Disney / Adventure Time vibe, then you would be hard pushed to find a better quality book.

I am a long time comic book fan, being first introduced to Batman in the mid to late 70's. This led to a appreciation of classic artists like Neal Adams and Jim Aparo. Moving through the decades that followed, I have a working knowledge of a huge raft of characters with a fondness for old school characters like JSA and The Shadow
Currently reading a slew of Bat Books, enjoying a mini Marvel revival, and the host of The Definative Crusade and Outside the Panels whilst also appearing on No-Prize Podcast on the Undercover Capes Podcast Network
