REVIEW: Darth Maul #1

Well Marvel have done the impossible, turned the only good thing in the prequels into something that goes beyond it’s purely visual appeal. Maybe this has happened before in an extended universe but I’m not the worlds biggest Star Wars fan so *shrugz*.

It’s a small personal story of as young mans struggle to come to terms with an oppressive father figure who won’t let him express himself, by slaughtering Jedi knights. He’s a bit of a moaning twat to be honest, doesn’t come across as cool so much as whiny adolescent hitting puberty at a great rate of knots.

The writing isn’t bad though, it all holds together and the narrative pootles along a the plot sets itself up well. The art has a newspaper strip feel to it which is quite refreshing after the ink laden pages of Cyborg #9.

If you give enough of a shit about a character whose eventual bisected demise has been foretold in a celluloid tumor already you could do far worse.
