Rick Remender and Wes Craig continue their stellar series Deadly Class with this latest emotionally charged issue.
As this latest arc begins to come to an end everything has hit the fan, Marcus“ love life is up in the air and with the assault on F*&%faces lair this is a distraction he could really do without. However, the most memorable scene for me is where Marcus has to run a sale at the comic shop he works at, Remender and Craig really get the Free Comic Book Day vibe with hordes of people gathered to get a bargain the whole scene really smacks of what a comic shop is like. Whilst this issue is dealing with some pretty heavy emotions both writer and artist still find the time to add in some great comedic elements that do not make this book an entirely melodramatic affair lightening up the book half way through before delving back into the abject insanity that is these kids“ lives. Remender paints such a vivid picture of what it has been like to be a teenager for the past 20 years or so that everyone will find something in this book relatable, yes they are in a very fantastic situation but from romance, to friendship to trying to find your way through school, any reader will relate to some portion of the casts lives and that is the books true charm.
Craig“s art continues to be stellar on this book, brimming with such emotion and movement that every panel is a joy to behold. Making these characters look entirely human (in some cases ugly) yet they are contrasted with the hyper-violence that is graceful and well executed. Every panel is open and fluid and the layouts are fresh and exciting that allow your eye to follow with striking ease switching between high octane energy and quiet, still images that really do show Craig“s skills with sequential art.
Deadly Class is another winner from Image; this issue is no exception, Remender“s plot flows at a great pace and thanks to the clear vision by the entire creative team, has such a unique identity that makes this an absolute must read book.
