REVIEW: Detective Comics #43

G’Day Bat-Fans,

This is Dodgy86 in the mix, bringing another review of Detective Comics #43 by Francis Manapul & Brian Buccelato with art by Fernando Blanco.

In this era, Bruce Wayne is M.I.A and Commissioner Gordon now dons the mantle of Batman, in the new Mecha suit.

G.C.P.D officers find Batman without his Mecha costume beaten up badly. Jim doesn’t live up to the title bestowed upon him, he unsuccessfully tried to stop some thugs. The one that got away has the sought after Power Core, who’s maniacal hands would this lead to?

What would The Joker’s Daughter want with this source of intense power? And why would the Falcones also be interested?

Buccelato brings a sense of noir to the story and art style (he’s also the inker), welcomely he also brings the feel of Gotham the TV series by giving more dialogue and character development of he officers (especially Yip and Bullock) involved in helping their boss as Gotham’s new Dark Knight Detective.

The pacing on the other hand, makes the story relatively slow and the lack of action is made up for it by the cliff hanger conclusion.

Personally, I’d prefer this in a trade. For Batman fans alike, do ya’self and pick it up!
