Let’s judge this book by its cover… Red,White and Blue prominently shown on this great cover. The fighter jet and the american flag tells you exactly what you’re getting inside. Smooth colours and a well detailed design.

It’s 1966 and a dad is telling his son about his time flying fighter jets in World War II, the struggles and abuse he faced being an African-American in the 1940’s. After his son tells him he has no idea what it’s like to be abused by white men. His dad tells him he had to put up with much worse to be able to help defend his country. Trying to stop his son from following in the racist footsteps of those he hates, believing racism breeds racism.

This book is a great World War II book on its own but at times it’s very heavy on the ‘oh look how racist everyone is’, The sad thing is this is probably a lot more mild than it actually was. Great fighter jet fight panels and gorgeous art make this a war story I didn’t get bored reading, I’m not normally into this kind of book but fighter jets are cool, even the old ones from the 40’s.
This book is a lot more about the difficulties African-Americans faced not just in the 40’s but also in the 60’s as Lee gets into a fight with a white man at a Doctor King rally.

An interesting story that pulls you in, this is a 4 star book.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
