Review: Dying is Easy #5

Dying is Easy, is a cross between the Fugitive, Pulp Fiction, and every disgraced cop becomes an amateur detective story, only with better dialogue.Â Dying Easy, is akin to those old pulp fiction mystery novels with a modern twist. Gritty, action packed with enough intrigue to keep you going.Â Joe Hill has made me miss the 80’s when the summer thriller was packed with drama and not just superheroes.

In the last issue of, Dying is Easy #4: Syd Homes, Â narrowly escaped apprehension by the police.Â HomesÂ continues to conduct his investigation into the Ross brothers, even though the detectives on the case cleared them.Â He doesn’t come away with any evidence but he did come away with a revelation, and clarity about racial preconception that would help him crack the case.Â A visit to his ex-wife residences shone some light on his family life.Â

In the current issue, Dying is Easy #5 : We catch up with Syd Homes,Â as he follows up on his latest hunch, and though correct it comes with a big twist .Â The Butler Did it in the Kitchen with the hammer! Just Kidding.Â But the twist is quite good.Â Â

I gotta warn you, that Dying is Easy #5, is not exactly a stand alone issue.Â It makes more sense if you go back and and read the first 4 issues again before rolling into this one. The concept of the effects of false accusations that can change a persons life could have been examined a little bit more.Â The art by Martin Simmonds was a bit more bright than the other issues.Â Overall this issue did what it was supposed toÂ in concluding the series.Â I fortunately had the ability to read all the issues at once and couldn’t imagine having to wait month to monthÂ to figure out what’s going on with the story; however, as a TPB this would be a great night read.Â I can’t wait for Volume 2.
