REVIEW: Evil Kat Comix Presents #1

One thing that I love about Indie Comics, especially first issues is it allows us to set the tone for all new experiences with all new stories. Evil Kat Comix does just that with Evil Kat Comix Presents #1. This compilation provides readers with a taste of what they’re all about, and the variety of stories that they have. Right out of the gate, I enjoyed the variety of stories and style of each story.

From Darkmoon to Taser, Spirit Guild to Project Shadow Breed. You get a glimpse of the creativity of each member of the team and what they bring to the table. The thing to keep in mind with this book is the fact that it is a preview, so each story is going to be short and sweet and just enough to wet your lips and wanting more. It would be difficult for me to say that there was one story that I liked over the other because of the fact that to be honest, I liked them all.

The artwork is what I would call genuine. I feel like in this day and age, comics strive to match that of the big two. Especially within the Indie world, I have noticed that for some books, it is a big push to have a visually stunning book, but the story may lack, or vice versa. But with Evil Kat Comix Presents #1, we get that genuine feel of the heart and soul of each contributor to the work. That extends to the writing as well.

Led by Rob Ferreri, we are introduced to not only different characters, but different time periods and worlds. That variety being presented here provides the reader with a chance to get different genres of comics, even genres you may not be accustomed to reading. Would this be a book worth picking up? I would say yes. Evil Kat Comix I feel is opening the door for not only reading new stories, but also open the door for potential creators to have a platform for their stories. Evil Kat Comix is the whole package, and what all indie comics fans should check out, and get ready for the excitement that is to come.
