Review: Fantastic Four Grand Design #2
Tom Scioli took the tough mission of back to the beginning of the First Family, it is not easy to fill King Kirby’s shoes, but Scioli does it in a great way, in this number 2 of Grand Design, Scioli takes us on a series of adventures that are brilliantly connected to each other, the first adventure we will find will be the epic showdown of the Fantastic Four against Galactus, Scioli shows us how the Galactus herald is facing a dilemma thanks to an unexpected heroine: Alicia Masters, Alicia is a key character in the story and a very clever trigger for the following stories which include a Thing’s Doppelganger a trip to Wakanda, an encounter with the Inhumans and of course a confrontation with their eternal nemesis Dr. Doom.
Scioli shows us again his great talent in this issue just like he had already done before with Gobots, Super Powers and of course with Gødland, in Grand Design you can feel the love he puts in each stroke, in fact each stroke is a tribute to the King, as I commented at the beginning of the review it should not have been easy to return to the beginnings of the golden age where less is more, of course, I’m not critical in what the comic industry has become today, on the contrary it is wonderful to be able to contemplate both periods to see the evolution of the industry, finally it is good to see artists such as Scioli, Doc Shanner, Bruce Timm and the late Darwin Cooke who rescue with their creations the essence of the ninth art.
