Review: G.I. Joe V the Six Million Dollar Man #4
Steve Austin and Cobra have the Joes wrapped around their finger. Mike Power, the Atomic Man, is an unlikely ally to Hawk. Then we travel to Switzerland where Scarlet is leading her team further into Cobra Commander’s snake pit. However, a surprise awaits them in the form of twins Tomax and Xamot. And now it really heats up!
The Creative Team:
Ryan Ferrier begins this issue with a conflicted Steve Austin. He’s coming to the realization that he’s responsible for the deaths of many even as his team-mate is trying to reassure him that it wasn’t his fault. His confused emotions lead him to threaten Cobra, but Cobra takes off in a hurry, but not because of Austin’s idol threats, but rather due to a strange device attached to Austin’s arm! It’s a stand-off of epic proportions as the survival of the entire city is at stake. The twins go about their fun of wreaking havoc among the citizens, all the while finishing each other’s sentences. It’s an enjoyable read to say the least. Great stuff includes G.I. Joe refusing to leave Col. Austin even in the face of death. Also Cobra Commander’s crash landing.
S.L. Gallant and Brian Shearer bring interesting visuals to this awesome team up. When these characters go into battle the panels become appropriately jagged and jumbled. The visuals involving the twins are also creepy in how these two know each other so well that they not only finish each other’s sentences, but they also second guess each other’s actions. The story tellers have their characters down pat. Art highlights include the ninja battle with snake eyes and the Cobra plane crash.
In Conclusion:
This was a great team up and the conclusion sees Steve Austin’s heroic attitude tested in a way we’ve never seen it before. A life and death situation that could have turned sour real quick. The final issue has us guessing about the six million dollar man’s future in ways that we never dreamed possible. It’s a fun read and a satisfactory climax to an awesome team up that only IDW and Dynamite can do it! *** (8.3 rating)
