Mini Story written by : (W) Dave Franchini (CA) Alfredo Reyes
I am an unabashed Zenescope fan, because when you pick up a copy of a Zenescope title, you know a couple of things before you even open the cover. You can expect a high level of quality when it comes to the artwork, and the story will have empowered female leads and add-on some twists on an existing story.
As for the story the reader has been dropped in the middle of the action of an ongoing adventure as a redheaded kick-ass princess fights her way through a caverns filled with sea monsters. That’s it book, it done. And you know what ? I was actually more effective then when some writers try to prolong a story through 12 issues or a whole book. I immediately knew who it was, and what was happening.
But I didn’t come for the story. I came to see the Swimsuit art. Not every one is wearing a swimsuits though. There are twenty-seven pin-ups, full-paged, drawn by different artists and there are some colored by different colorists. Some are better than others, as to be expected for a collection. Some had really good body work where as the faces were just not proportional. My favorite was “Lady of the Lake” by Mike Chrome. Also “Mary Mystere Medina Harbour Island, Bahamas”, Artwork by Monte Moore, Colors by Ceci de la Cruz.
The pin-ups feature practically every female fury in Zenescope“s line, so there is something for everyone here. The images range from Really Good to terrible. Grimm Fairy Tales 2019 Swimsuit Special comes with 3 variant covers. They aren’t bad, but feel there was other pinup inside that were better, and more deserving of being variant cover art.
