The Guardians, whose current lineup is Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Ant-Man, Rocket and Groot, are running undercover in the Nova Corp in order to root out a group of corrupt corpsmen. In the course of this, investigation, Drax is off with a group of corpsmen who lost Thanos while transporting him to the galactic pokey.
Meanwhile, Star-Lord along with (Hey! He“s not dead.) Richard Rider have found a gigantic Infinity Stone. Since the Nova Corps are dealing with corruption, Ultron-infected species, and a missing Thanos, they decide to keep this discovery under their helmets until they can figure out who they can trust.
Aside, from Rocket“s promotion to the Denarian rank, most of the book is focused on Drax. This feels like a smart move by Gerry Duggan (Nova, Uncanny Avengers), since Drax has gone through a lot of changes in this series of Guardians. He has become a very complex characters and really deserves to get a story that not only highlights the changes, but shows that the Drax we know and love is still the core of this character.
Before the Guardian can get any comfort in making major breaks cleaning out the corps, we see that things are about to spin out of control, as everyone“s favorite psychic, canine cosmonaut Cosmo runs into a problem that only the Guardians can handle.
Marcus To (Red Robin, Joyride) continues to show why he is the current go to artist for space opera comics. In some ways, I am disappointed that as much of this book is indoors, as To“s art really shines in his outer space and alien world panels. His work on this book makes me wish that he“ll restart Joyride, just so I can see more of the way he sees the universe.
Clearly, this book is powering it way to an action packed series end in two issues. It looks like the Guardians will play a major part in the Infinity event books that will follow. I have to admit that I have been dipping in and out of this series, so maybe it is time for the guardians to take a break for a while. Either way, this looks like it will be a do not miss finale.
