REVIEW: Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #2

Written by Robert Venditti, art by Rafa Sandoval & Jordi Tarragona, published by DC

I’m a fan of X-Force, for reasons I may put into a Faith Manages (shameless plug) and just recently I’ve been catching up on Cable and X-Force and really enjoying it. It’s about a former group of heroes forced into hiding and trying to get their reputation back. I bring this up because Green Lantern is roughly the same basic idea but not as much fun.

There’s some weird pacing issues, making you double-check panels, the villains seem genuinely more interesting than the heroes, despite the stupid nineties costume that was referencing the eighties when it first appeared, seriously, shoulder pads? There’s not a lot of time given to answering any questions and over all there’s a feeling that most of the characters are reading their lines and only a few of them are enjoying doing so.

The art does the same thing, it all works but the storytelling is a bit jerky.

OK let me put it to you like this. It’s taken me three-day to write this much review that I opened with my love of X-Force with, and closed it with to.
