Review: Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #35

Synopsis:

Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart and Kyle Rayner, four of the most popular Green Lanterns of the DC universe are standing on a meteor. They are looking directly at the Controllers compound wondering if they should call for back-up, at Guy’s insistence they decide not to. The stakes are raised, however as the controllers reveal that they have an advantage over the Guardians of the Universe. The Controllers are taunting their captives as they threaten them with torture.

The Creative Team:

Robert Venditti Is giving our four fearless Lanterns a huge obstacle to overcome. The one who suggested that they go in without backup gets the worst of the battle to come. It’s a knock-down drag-out no-holds barred match between the mightiest powers that be in the Milky Way Galaxy. Venditti knows how to build suspense and he throws everything at our heroes as the Controllers over-estimate themselves again. Our four corpsmen are not having an easy time of it and they may not make it out of this battle.

Tom Derenick and Jack Herbert give us some of the best Green Lantern art in the history of the title. I’ve never seen these four heroes rendered any better than in this title. The opening splash is tremendous and the panels bring the action of Vendetti’s words to glorious life. The close-ups and multiple splashes help keep the action flowing as you would expect in an issue like this. And each splash is a poster worthy masterpiece. It’s great stuff!

In Conclusion:

Wow! A quick read in an action packed, but important chapter in this story. There’s no exposition or introspection, just four fast friends in one of the most important battles of their lives. they left the boring parts on the cutting room floor! the heat is on and the stakes are high. Can they rescue their friends before it’s too late? We’ll have to wait and find out…to be continued! **** (8.8 rating)
