REVIEW: Harley Quinn #19

Harley Quinn #19
Written by Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti

Letters by John J. Hill

Let’s judge this book by its cover… It’s the Harley bunch. Great artwork here. Fun and playful.

The facts are these… Harley has been stretching herself too thin between being a landlord to a building full of tenants a Doctor for a retirement home and the heavy hitter for a roller derby team that she simply doesn’t have the time to fight crime… Wait what? Fight crime? I thought Harley was a bad guy. Only when the Joker is around. Oh ok that makes total loony toony sense. Anyway, with no free time Harley has put together a gang of Harley’s, her Quintets if you will. Unfortunately they’re not very good at being crime fighters and have been captured by Popeye… Sorry Captain Strong.

Now if you’re sitting comfortably we can begin… With Ivy’s and Tony’s help Harley has found the location of Captain Strongs boat where he’s keeping the Quintets captive. Using her poop-a-pult (a catapult to send her pet poop flying across the city) she flies to the rescue. Meanwhile the mother of the Quintuplet Quintets is furious that her girls have joined a gang and plans to drag them home, even going so far as to threaten a super villain like Poison Ivy. On the boat Harley faces off against Captain Strong, unfortunately she seems to have packed her fake gun and fires nothing more than a “bang” flag at him. This he finds so funny he doubles over and poops his pants. Changing his clothes he attacks again and this time the Quintuplets mother flies to the rescue with a machine gun and tells Harley off for putting her underage girls in danger. Having no idea of their real age Harley apologizes and says goodbye to the girls and heads to work at the retirement home where she meets a mother whose daughter has been kidnapped and agrees to help. To be continued.

If this book doesn’t make you laugh at least once you might wanna see a doctor cause there’s something wrong with your funny bone. From poop jokes to vomit puns. Captain strong laughing so hard he poops his pants to having to change into a sexy little leather strapped number. Poison Ivy’s face when the Quintuplets mum threatens to drag her and Toby to hell by their ass hairs is brilliant. Harley has quickly become one of the most popular titles in DC’s arsenal and this issue makes it easy to see why.

The Good, the Bad and the Star rating…
The good – the DCU is taking itself a little too serious and this title is a great counter to that.
The bad – some of the jokes seem like they’re trying a little too hard.
The stars – if you’re looking for crazy fun this book is for your it’s a very strong 4 stars.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
