Review: Harley Quinn #48

Synopsis:

This issue opens with a gang of thugs on the docks. They’re picking up an illegal shipment and worried about what will happen if the Penguin finds out. But they should be more worried about someone else! Here’s a topsy-turvy situation for Ms. Quinn and her friends. She has to raise a ton of money or face eviction. She has no problem finding a new place herself. She muses that she can just crash with (poison) Ivy. But what about her misfit roommates? They’ll have nowhere to go if that happens.

The Creative Team:

Sam Humphries tells this tale with tongue planted firmly in cheek as our heroine takes on what she thinks will be an easy mission to gain much-needed funds to pay off certain bill collectors. An amusing situation as a different villain emerges on the scene. Not the one the thugs were expecting. But is this dude really a threat? He looks menacing enough, but can he hold a candle to the normal Gotham city rogues gallery? Great Stuff includes the inclusion of said villain and Harley along with her roommates contemplating what to do about the rent.

Allison Burges gives us a brutal look at the Gotham city docks in the middle of the night. She contrasts the harsh look of the criminal element with some over the top panels to let us know that it’s still an amusing tale of hi-jinks gone wrong. Highlights include the inside cover where Harley is comparing her abs with Supergirls “Ab’s of steel.” and the splash that introduces this issues villain. It was a real treat to take in the cool story within these pages.

In Conclusion:

It seems that Harley is having a hard time finding a job that she’s suited for. Time is running out and she has less than two days to achieve her goal. So, she finally takes a job that she should be good at. Taking out the newest threat to Gotham city and it’s underworld. She finds it easy to infiltrate the outlaw’s hide-out and it is apparently easy to take out what she must consider being a second-rate thug. Only… to be continued! ***
