REVIEW: Harley Quinn and her Gang of Harleys #5
Harley Quinn and her Gang of Harleys #5 of 6 (OR looky we can Deadpool to! In hot pants!)
Written by Frank Tieri, Jimmy Palmiotti, art by Mauricet and published by DC Comics
Well as the retardation of this once delightful and complex character marches on I feel sorry for anyone reading this. You get what you can, even if it involves miserable, one-dimensional characters running about fighting robots with…”boob bombs”. You know there’s some shit you can never un-read? Inter-sliced with the adventures of XXX Scooby Doo is the origin story of the villain. Bad parents breed sociopath, moving on. All the characters read as if they’ve just been taught how to speak and the pacing is broken. One minute “madcap” action the next whiny angst with a Trump parody.
There’s a small army of artists on this and it still looks rushed. The whiny angsty bits come off better than the “action” bits that seem to borrow their inspiration from the oeuvre of Uwe Boll and the design is pedestrian at best. There’s a nice page with, what I think are zombie goats, if that’s your thing.
It’s not offensive it just reads like a teenager wrote it and as for Harley herself? Well I’ll always have the 2000-2004 run.
