REVIEW: Houdini’s Silver Dollar Misfits # 1

G“Day Crusaders,

This is Dodgy in the mix brining you Houdini“s Silver Dollar Misfits #1 by Dwight L. MacPherson with art by Pablo Fernandez (cover), Zip Tones and Lettering by Steven Legge, Edited by Rebecca MacPherson and cover colors by Simon Robins.

Proudly published by Hocus Pocus Comics.

If you are a fan of magic or have lived on Earth since the Twentieth Century you have heard of Harry Houdini, the first escapist who used media to enhance his fame. Houdini“s Silver Dollar Misfits begins with an orphan named Drake who“s mysterious origin will keep you engaged as he“s moved from an Orphanage and eventually introduced to a new foster family. There is something really, really odd about one of the Orphan careers.. the other orphans have taken it upon themselves to found out what’s up with Mister Robert!

I do appreciate the pacing throughout, McPherson has done a solid job of giving characteristics to a number of people in this book (there is a lot!) from Drakes’ careers, his new foster family and so on. You will understand enough to know who everyone is and there questions needed answering giving depth and suspense in the conclusion. The questions includes Drake’s origin, Mr Robert’s crazy magic ability and the old man lurking in the background. The art is fantastic, this is proof that black and white is not boring! Fernandez and Zip Tones style is pleasant to the eyes by strengthening the uncertainty that MacPherson is delivering!
