Written by Chip Zdarsky, art by Kevin Maguire, published by Marvel
So yeah, Howard thee Duck. Never read it before likely to pick up the trade. It was pretty damn awesome. Yeah, straight out the gate; two lawyers, an alien, an octogenarian and a talking duck go to an island full of dinosaurs, what more do you want? Seriously.
The writing bounces through your head tickling neurons and delicately kissing your synapses. Kevin Maguire’s art is magic, all those facial expressions get to pay another visit to the world and they look just as good as they did in the Justice League International. He does manage to add character to even bland panels of people in a quinjet.
Chip Zdarsky is a humorous writer, he doesn“t fill the pages with gags he simply let“s the inherent silliness of the situation shine through, but with clear affection. Let“s put it this way when a talking duck is your voice of reason you know you“re in for a good time.
The ending is beautiful and Spider-Man is in it.
So while it“s a bit disappointing Maguire is only as guest artist but I“ll be looking up the regular and as mentioned, getting the trade.
Seriously!
