Review: Justice League #19
Synopsis:
The opening scene was so great it reminded me of the old George Reeves Adventures of Superman where Clark had to pull a fast one to get out of the office and away from John Hamilton’s Perry White in order to confront that week’s mission. Then Zatana taught Wonder Woman a little trick to keep our heroes disguised from the average city of Metropolis in anticipation for the return of…this months supervillain and it’s one I haven’t seen for a long time.
The Creative Team:
Scott Snyder is attempting to amuse us this issue with the return of one of Superman’s deadliest antagonists. Only this time he’s joining forces with our heroes to fight a deadlier threat, or is he? Keeping us guessing all along as to what his motives are and what’s going to happen next. The Legion of Doom is planning something wicked, but our guest antagonist has bigger problems as his home world is facing a crises which could destroy its entire inhabitants. The threats heat up this issue and the stakes are high! Great stuff includes the introduction of a new dimension and a potential new threat to our Justice Leaguers.
Jorge Jimenez has his work cut out for him in this issue. And he does an amazing job. Looking at new worlds and characters that were created for this issue. It’s a fantastic trip through multiple dimensions that are breath-taking to behold. His panels move in strange ways but are easy on the eyes and help absorb us into the multiple universes that are revealed here, Highlights include The Daily Planet building actually eating Wayne Enterprises of Metropolis and the splash where the Justice Leaguers have to defend themselves against this issue antagonist.
In Conclusion:
The Justice League has to humble themselves somewhat in this issue and work with a character they would never have dreamed in a thousand years they would have to work with to confront this issues crisis. Superman is the only one of the League that can enter this new realm and deal with the situation at hand. Our guest antagonist reveals that anyone else would go insane. He also reveals that it’s only because of him that Superman would survive this trip. A lot of great surprises for our team this issue. Excellent read here. Only things aren’t as they appear to our Super Team…To be continued! **** (9.1 rating)
