Review: KA-ZAR LORD SAVAGE LAND #1 (OF 5)
Classic Ka-Zar gets an Update and an interesting addition to the lore of the Savage Land.
Story Thus far:
The last time we saw Ka-zar was in the pages of Empyre Avengers 1-3. Ka-azar was killed briefly before being brought back to life by the Savage land, seemingly at the behest of his wife Shanna. As a result, KA-ZAR is physically fine, but his mind has been having trouble engaging with other people and staying in the present.
In the current issue of Kazar #1, Kazar, gets a new suit made of Biotech weaved by Shanna. Normally he would be against that type of thing , but it gets its first test as the family must fight a tyrannosaurus.
Script:
You can already that the Savage Land series is going to be a great way to explore the anomaly that is the Savage Land, and its complex alien origins, all the while reflecting on the familial relationship of Ka-Zar , Matthew, Shanna and Zabu. Its stands up as a good intro for the uninitiated d to the Savage lands, and Ka-zar.
The most powerful dialogue is when Ka-zar is trying to give Matthew advice on how to survive in the Savage Land even though he didn’t grow up there himself, a perfect analogy for what’s happening to today’s youth. What it means to become a teenager.
Art:
The art by German Garcia, and colors by Matheus Lopes, reminds me very much of old school panels. Very crisp and clear and to the point.
Covers:
Kazar #1 THE Savage land will have four covers: CVR A Jesus Saiz; CVR B Juan Cabal; CVR C Peach Momoko; CVR D Liefeld Deadpool 30th Var; CVR E R. B. Silva STORMBREAKERS VAR
Speculation:
KA-ZAR: LORD OF THE SAVAGE LAND #1, stands on its own, due the new Biotech suit as well as the first cameo appearance of a new villain. Also, it is the 1st full appearance of people of the singing grasslands Bawka, and Vanga.
it has been disappointing that there has not been any Ka-zar adaptation news. Because there has been some discourse on who owns what. David Rand, who first appeared in the pulp magazine Ka-zar #1. Kevin Plunder’s first appeared in the X-Men #10. Shanna’s 1st appearance was in Shanna, The She-Devil Vol 1 #1. Matthew Plunder’s” 1st appearance was X-Men Annual Vol 1 12.
Speculator have been trying to guess when the Savage Land will appear. Maybe in Kraven the Hunter, because, he has made his home there recently. From what we have seen of the Eternal’s trailers thus far, Eternals may give us our first glimpse of the Savage Land. In the meantime, anytime a Jungle type scene appears on screen, I get excited because that could be the Savage land, 1st appearance in Marvel Mystery Comics #22 (1942).
