REVIEW: Kevin Eastman’s Totally Twisted Tales

Kevin Eastman“s Totally Twisted Tales is 96 pages of dark and twisted depravity from the clinically insane minds of Kevin Eastman and Simon Bisley! The novella features three full length stories featuring guys, girls, monsters, mutants, superheroes, slackers and lowlifes ”“ as well as one VERY fast rat!

The Very Angry Seven:  A mutated group of garden pest band together to protect the only world they have ever known, their garden and the Family that tills the field.  Also making an appearance there is a striking April O’Neil look alike, who has been posing as nurse, but is actually a journalist. Nuclear Newt; Rapid Rat; Carnivorous Canary; Monstrous Mole; Nefarious Gnat; Suicide Shrew; Battle Snail.  Letters and Colors by Altered Earth Arts.

In the Thump N Guts: In the distant future a sleeper cell of Super Powered agents from have been awakened, in order to stand against an alien presence that wants to destroy the Earth.  First Appearances of: Detonate; Stab; Veto; and Megadead; Mental Head.  Letters and Colors by Steve Lavigne & Mark Martin

In Biz and Buzz: Two Brothers by ”¦Different Mothers: I can only explain this story as if it’s kinda of the day in the Life of Lloyd and Harry from Dumb and Dumber, only slightly more over the top. Letters and Colors by Lorenzo Sperlonga and Robert Dunas.

All three stories make for a good combination of weird and wacky and next-level storytelling. And what I mean by that is that each one is its own level. I’ve never read anything like it. While Eastman does some fun stuff here, the real star is Simon Bisley“s art.   The book clocks in at 94 pages and that“s including the extra pages in the back that allude to something coming in the future. The writing and tone of it have a way of transporting the reader to the far-off locations where it takes place. Bisley’s distinctive style ( ABC Warriors, Lobo and Sláinem and llustrations from the Bible: A Work in Progress) has me asking how I haven’t keyed in on him before.

As for speculation, current economic issues aside don’t ever bet against Kevin Eastman. Kevin Eastman’s Totally Twisted Tales will come in a variety of covers: There is an  *EXCLUSIVE SIGNED COVER*SIGNED copy of Kevin Eastman’s Totally Twisted Tale,  limited to 250 Simon Bisley (25.00) ; Cover A  by Simon Bisley (12.99); and a Cover C Simon Bisley (12.99).
