REVIEW: Lucas Stand #5

This is a great example of writing for the trades, something I wish creators would just do and get floppies out the way. There’s an actual line about the lead character needing a recap and I could empathize. That is not to say the book is no good, it is good, time traveling magic demon hunters should always be fun but there’s no getting around the fact that this is five issues into a six issue series and it’s not bothered if you just picked it up.

The art annoys me. It’s not very good technically but it’s “not very good” with loads of passion and there’s clearly a lot of potential being realised as the comic goes on. There’s good facial expressions but naff anatomy, great atmosphere but horrid perspective and through it all you can’t help but enjoy the sheer enthusiasm on display.

With compelling characters and some pretty intense drama, this held my interest despite being plot heavy with no pointers as to the bigger picture.

This is a good comic that despite its flaws is being produced for all the right reasons.
