REVIEW: Mann’s World # 2

This story of four adventurous friends goes horribly astray, they are then exposed to the extremes of nature and the most disturbing of all… humanity!

From the opening page, we see a jet plane on the verge of colliding into a jungle backdrop of something like Tropic Thunder or Platoon (I believe the cause of the crash would be revealed in issue # 1). The four men are teeming with angst due to their uncertainty and overall the determination to survive. Meanwhile at HQ, their disappearance didn’t go unnoticed as their rescue mission had to be postponed due to poor weather.

What these four men experience in one day, would anyone feel safe just stay at home!

One of the takeouts from Mann’s World # 2 is non-stop action from the opening page. Although there are pages of the characters in discussion, writer Victor Gischler doesn’t waste one panel by offering sufficient dialogue to set the scene whether it be survival or humor we as readers were engaged (we felt how those four men felt!). The scene jumping was not frequent although when used it added depth to the story. And of course there is the art, Niko Walter who does an amazing job with setting the tone from the get go. I love his backdrop scenes but one thing I loved the most was the facial expressions, from laughter, fear and more.

I found Mann’s World #2 a very easy read due to the way it is written and illustrated, I enjoyed it enough to read it again upon finishing it. I have to admit this book is not for everyone as it is very violent, I mean look at the cover by Rahzzah – although it is gorgeous. There are scenes in this book I had to double-take due to the violent nature!

This book has the Land of the Lost feel to it with a bit of lost, if that is your flavor.. do ya’self a favor and check it out!
