REVIEW: Mask TPB

G“Day fellow Crusaders,

This is Dodgy86 back into the mix bringing you Mask by Richard Smith.

This story is of Crispus, an elf-looking warrior (due to the pointy ears) of the tribe of the regime of Hypocrium (the layout of the city and the soldiers look like that of ancient Rome), however Crispus is hiding a dangerous secret because he is different from the other inhabitants. His face is hidden beneath a mask to hide who he truly is; for very good reason, the people of Hypocrium are oppressive and brutal in their treatment of those outside their walls.

Acts of kindness by friends give Crispus conscious thoughts in his mind ”“ What if they find out the truth? These thoughts and feelings never escape Crispus“ mind, effecting his confidence and the chances of love. He“s living a lie.

Is there light at the end of Crispus“ tale? Read it and find out!

This story paints a picture of don“t judge a book by its cover, this is a sensible story with a surprising conclusion – ending with a twist that will surprise you.
The book warns it to be for mature readers, however it is not as harsh as other books. To be honest, I think its suitable for younger readers.

The art style works well in explaining the flow of the story, the dialogue is fluid between the characters and their surroundings – there is little need for monologue. Smith“s art is clean with a unique blend of western and Japanese Manga influences.

For a well written book which is not predictable, this is worth a look. Do ya“self a favour and check it out!
