Let’s judge this book by its cover…Silhouette of a winged woman made up of each member of the team. It’s a nice design. Lack of background detail but the main focus is on the team.

The facts are these…Max and her friends Fang, Nudge, Iggy, Gasman and Angel were all created in a lab and have no memories of who they really are. They were given gifts and abilities such as bladed wings and psychic powers and are known as Splices. Now determined to find their parents and learn who they are they head to New York where one of the labs is and hopefully some answers.

If you’re sitting comfortably we can begin… The team sneaks through the sewers under New York looking for the institute of higher learning. They find they door but using their new abilities they get inside. Once inside Angel try’s hacking the computers for information when the chambers begin to open and out step the failed slices. These are more animal then man. While protecting her friends Max kills one of these beasts and the team face off against a whole hoard of them. Beating the beasties Max tells Jeb the head scientist it’s over not to look for them. On their way out Angel finds a file with names and address of potential parents. Try mind not have found the answers thy wanted but at least they came together as a family. To be continued.

Interesting idea. Far from original but interesting nine the less. The story moved along nicely and it didn’t feel like I’d missed the first 4 issues. It’s easy to jump into which shows some good writing here. It has potential as long as it doesn’t go too far into the superhero style book and more of the lost kids looking for family and make it about heart over action.

That gonna leave a mark…the fight scene is done well with a double page spread. The only death is one of the beasts that is stabbed through.

The Good, the Bad and the Star rating…
The Good – The idea and the story is well written and thought out.
Th Bad – The art let’s it down a fair bit. It’s not very consistent and mostly subpar. There are a few pages that are nice.
The Stars – For the story’s idea it’s an easy 4 and the art isn’t so bad that I’d take away a star for it.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
