Review: MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #50
”¢ Synopsis: The MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS & the OMEGA RANGERS ”“ along with surprise new allies ”“ versus The Anointed in the conclusion to NECESSARY EVIL!
In the last issue of MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #49, Kiya conducted an assault on Safehaven while Jason, Tommy, Kimberly and Billy tried to evacuate the civilians. Zach, Trini, Rocky, Adam and Aisha provided a cavalry force, until Kiya deployed the Anointed to engage the Omega Zords , but all of that was just a feint, because, Xi and Ranger Slayer use the distraction to teleport down to the gate and Xi sends Ranger Slayer through the gate on a secret mission.
In the current issue of MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #50, the MMPR continue their campaign to contain the assault led by Dayne, meanwhile Tommy who has the only extra Zord breaks off in order to provide some Support by fire for the Omega Rangers. Tommy“s Zord combines with the Omega Zord to make the Red Tiger Zord (1st comic book appearance?) effectively destroying the Anointed“s main effort and the Ranger Slayer arrives effectively to canalize the rest of the Anointed. That leaves Kiya to catch hands from Trini as they engaged in one on one combat.
That is not even the biggest thing about the issue. It is the return of Lord Drakkon. Lord Drakkon was an evil Power Ranger who controls the Black Dragon and battles the Power Rangers, the last time I remember seeing him, he was the villain in in the Shattered Grid storyline. Basically, the bad boy version of Tommy Oliver from an alternate reality he gives the MMPR universe an edge.
It is nice to hear that this isn“t going to be a one and done for Lord Drakkon, “BOOM! Studios, under license by Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), today announced a brand new three-issue limited series POWER RANGERS: DRAKKON NEW DAWN, from writer Anthony Burch (Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack) and artist Simone Ragazzoni (Odessa).”“-Boom! 4.5 stars out of 5. MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #50 had somewhere to go in a hurry. It is not a stand alone issue, but it I had to wrap up the Necessary Evil arc and introduce the next one, which it effectively accomplished. ”¢ If you are a MMPR fan this is a must have for the collection.
