Moon Girl is written perfectly. She’s likable but only by virtue of the fact that she’s a good guy. She more intelligent than everyone around her and she knows it and is frustrated by it. Then her mum braids her hair. It’s a scene that crystallizes her relationship with a world she doesn’t understand on a mature level, but wants so very much to help. Devil provides the levity in this window on adorable isolation.
The art is electric, lively and full of movement. Thin, clean lines and bright colours mixed with exaggerated expression and simple design, it’s a relief after some of the stuff I’ve been reading recently.
This is a franchise waiting to happen and it is divine. Just read the bloody thing.
(It’s also brilliant for kids, especially frustrated ones).
