Review: N2YCBD – New To You Comic Book Day
During this weekend’s groundbreaking UCPN/CC Virtual Con, I was asked about my personal N2YCBD choices. My reply was that, thanks to the number of books I see and review on a weekly basis I am in a pretty privileged position. So, I have had a look through the reviews I have written and found 3 graphic novels or trades that are available from Amazon, if you are practising social distancing.

Written by: Ingrid Chabbert, Art by; Carole Maurel, Letters by; Derron Bennett, Translated by; Edward Gauvin, Published by; Boom! Studios
First up is very poignant book as it deals with the horror that is the loss of a pregnancy. Ingrid Chabbert, may be more recognised for her children’s books, but this, her first graphic novel offering is something of a personal journey for her. The story follows a same sex couple as they try to get over, work through their loss. This is the key; it is a story about the couple, though of course one part is more of a focal point, which I found totally relatable The art is gorgeous, simple and wholly effective. Carole Maurrel’s art show so much emotion, you can actually feel the heart break. The colors add tone and context for added emphasis. Overall a truly moving piece of work which transcends the comic book format.

These Savage Shores TPB Vol 1.
Written by; Ram V, Art by; Sumit Kumar, Colors by; Vittorio Astone, Letters by; Aditya Bidikar, Published by; Vault Comics
A change of pace occurs in this book. Its a horror from the new days of the Silk Route, where two ancient evils lurk and seek to do battle for the very souls of the indigenous and vising populace. The book is written by Ram V, who has recently joined Justice League Dark. Here Ram takes an historical event and adds in the mysterious; think Penny Dreadful though based in India not London. Ram creates a plethora of characters to engage the reader. Sumit Kumar provides the art and along with colorist Vittorio Astone adds a depth to the book that exudes the drama of both vampires and of something far, far worse.

Story / Art / Cover: Stjepan Sejic, Published by; Top Cow via Image Comics
For many people Stjepan Seiic is the guy who did the fantastic Harleen books from DC Comics last year. That, my friends is only the tip of the iceberg. Sejic, a colorist originally has developed a style that is both sexy and fun. This tour de force emphases all of Sejic’s star quality. Simply put, it’s a love story, and if that gives you pause, as Lisa says its also about hot bondage loving lesbians! The thing is, that sure, the BDSM aesthetic wears its fetish loving heart on its latex sleeve but this is just a means to an end, as Lisa and Ally discover there is more to having a relationship than that which binds them. As fun as the dialogue is, the art screams for attention. The painted colors give the book an almost feel of grandeur as the pair make their way from hook up, to friends to more than friends, all along the way knowing that when it comes to love, there is no such thing as a safe word! This collection is the first of many so be sure to scour the digital and actual racks for more
