This new installment comes from the from Dynamites creative team of Jeremy Whitley (My Little pony, PrinceLess, The Wasp), Brittney Williams (Garfield, Patsy Walker, Samurai Jack), Valentina Pinto (Strawberry Shortcake, Ghostbusters, Star Wars) and Taylor Esposito (Action Comics, Batgirl, Madagascar 3). Which such a fantastic team in place I was very happy to pick up this book.
The illustrations are bright and eye catching, the writing is witty and fun but not so much that it would go over the heads of younger readers. The lettering is well placed and non-intrusive which again for younger readers and readers like me with dyslexia makes all the difference.
The story tells of two best friends Willow and Wisp. Both with fantastic imaginations and spirit of adventurers. They both have unique personalities that blend together to suit each other well. That is why they are best friends after all. Willow is our writer, thinker and super cool wizard, while Whisp is the rambunctious ready for a fight warrior. They play their games and tell their stories. Willows family as so use to these two that they include themselves into the girl“s games as they play. Whip on the other hand must grow up a little when she returns home to her hard-working mum. She tries her best to look out for her as only a daughter can.
We find our girls finishing up a day of play and heading to bed when Whips hears something outside her window. Being the brave Knight that she is, she goes on investigates what is going on. This is where the real story begins. She confronts the noisy intruder and then finds she needs more help to deal with it, so off she runs to her faithful wizard friend for help. This leads to the girls learning that there is more out there than meets the eye and they are in for a big adventure when they meet Twinkle.
This wonderful comic is perfect for all ages and is in a similar vein as Captain Underpants. It is bright, engaging and leaves you wanting to know more about what is going on. I think that this is going to be a big hit with younger readers and reminiscer“s like me alike. Rated: 4.5 out of 5!
