REVIEW: Reapers #1
Reapers follows the story of two recently deceased young ladies who find themselves in purgatory. Recruited by one of the Grim Reapers (Victor) to handle some business on Earth, the girls are either enticed or coerced into doing the dirty work of reaping the souls of angels and demons that have gone AWOL from their respective camps, as this task falls somewhere outside of Victor“s job description. Violet and Mary are tossed headlong into the fray from there, without explanation or instruction, only a picture and an address for their first “target.”“
The story in Grim Reapers thus far seems solid. It has not yet progressed into the meat and potatoes of the script, but the characters themselves seem interesting enough, and humans hunting supernatural entities is a fairly classic story plan to begin with. Nothing has either jumped out yet or been reason for dismay when it comes to the story.
Reapers“ art is solid. There are moments when it is flawless looking, and moments that it begins to appear rushed. This isn“t exactly something I can hold against it at any point though. The imagery is good and the page construction is solid enough. Occasionally, the details become muddled, and it is difficult to discern exactly what is happening in the scene, but it“s never so much that it“s impossible to tell what“s going on in the story itself.
All in all, not bad, and I wouldn“t have a problem recommending it to others. The art is definitely high tier and serious and the story is interesting enough that I“m willing to continue.
