REVIEW: Superman: American Alien #1
Superman: American Alien #1
STORY BY Max Landis, ART BY Nick Dragotta, COLORS BY Alex Guimaraes, LETTERS BY John Workman
Let’s judge this book by its cover… Crop circles and corn fields all scream aliens. This cover done well there isn’t much going on. Clark alone in the corn. But it’s nice. The variant is far superior.
American Alien is very much a retelling of Clark’s origin, but don’t let that put you off. We’ve all read a version of his origin at some point, growing up on a farm and finding out he has powers. This one has something most of those didn’t… Heart. The first few pages are heart breaking, the fear of his gifts for not just Clark but John and Martha. Slowly coming to accept his abilities and even embracing them. Seeing his mood change from sadness and fear to excitement and joy made this a very emotional book.
I have to admit, I’m not the biggest Superman fan, I find him a little dull because he is so powerful. But seeing this version, this young boy learning that being different can be a good thing and learning that actions have consequences at such a young age, it shows not only why he became the man he is today, but how! I absolutely loved it.
Rating this is easy, 5 stars.

- Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
