Review: The Flash #75 : Year One Finale
This oversize anniversary issue marks the end of Barry Allen’s journey to become the Flash. The Turtle’s final play will challenge our hero in every way possible, and by the end of the battle, a Flash will be born-and a Flash will die! Lex Luthor’s offer to Captain Cold, whose icy vengeance waits for the Flash.
Written by Joshua Williamson; Illustrated by Howard Porter; Hi-Fi, colors; Steve Wands, letters.
In the last issue of The Flash #74 : Year One, it opened with the Turtle king from the future has the Future Flash chained to the Cosmic Treadmill, in an attempt flush out Prime Flash so that he can steal Prime Flash’s speed. Prime manages to help future Flash escape but the Turtle kidnapped Iris. Once Prime Flash gets up the nerve to go after the Turtle.
In the current issue of The Flash #75 : Year One the Finale the story inexplicably by Barry Allen channeling his will power which allows him to tap into the speed-force for the first time. Which destroys Turtles machine and sets the citizens of Central City free.  A somewhat inadequate ending for a story-line that has been good so far. What strikes me is how much even though the look of the Turtle has changed over the years, his Modus Operandi of notifying the Good Guy of his entire plan, prior to execution stays the same. Probably the most interesting would be the last splash page with a some of the Flashes I do know and some I just can’t place.
I“ve always thought of The Turtle (1st appearance All Flash #21 (Winter 1945) as one of Flash“s lesser villains, the epitome of some of the cartoon-ish villains, that was common during the Golden Age. Though it’s interesting to note that The Turtle was one of the main enemies of Jay Garrick during the 1940“s . Howard Porter’s depiction, has done a tremendous job of turning him into a major league Rogue.
The second story begins with the Flash being brought to the present and being Face to Face with a character named Steadfast meeting up with (The Flash Vol 5 #69, June, 2019). He sits Barry down and explains the new forces that comes about as a result of the Force Barrier breaking, and as result we are given a cameo of his future allies that can tap into the different forces to include the still force.
The third story is about Captain Cold begins which inexplicably goes into his history of abuse from his father, and his missions with the Suicie Squad, before going into the story of the offer from Lex Luthor.  So all in all for the low price of $4.99 you get a story from the past and prelude to the future, as well as some posible first cameos. Not bad for the price.
