Let’s judge this book by its cover… Eye catching, there is not a single inch of the cover that isn’t detailed beautifully. The scene itself is amusing depicting a beautiful woman walking a giant spider on a leash.
I don’t usually review trades as they take a lot of extra time to read and review but once I started reading this story I couldn’t stop. The Monsterjunkie family use their money to protect and house creatures the world has long thought extinct or simply fictional, from an extremely friendly Sasquatch to a new mother Pterodactyl, trying to keep these creatures safe from the world while trying to have a normal life, this a very normal family with real problems and emotions. This is not a supernatural/ horror book let me clear that up, this is a book about family and heart. The undertones are not subtle, the evils men do to the animal kingdom are front and centre with the fathers teachings, from the heart breaking origin of a baby elephant to the heart warming tale of a female elephant helping a baby rhino this book makes you think as you take the journey with this family.
The art is gorgeous, the faces are especially well done. This doesn’t come off preachy and it could have easily crossed that line, it always pulled back before it hit that post.
Yes I started reading it thinking it was going to be about monsters (can’t blame me it’s called Monsterjunkies) I was pleasantly surprised by the emotional story of this amazing family.
This is a great title and deserves the highest star rating so that’s what it will get 5 stars.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
