REVIEW: The Paybacks #4
Everyone“s favorite superhero repo squad finally confront the shadowy organization that“s been offing bankrupt heroes, and they work out their differences with poise and civility. No, actually, they fight. But one of the Paybacks is fed up with the life of indentured servitude and decides it“s time to default . . . no matter the cost!
Issue 4 picks up in the nightmare room and we finally get the Pierce reveal! Â High Guard and Driver battling, Zoe and Bloodpouch battling and Night Knight grows a set! Â I won’t spoil it here but it is a full-blown geek out, typical of this series. Â I have to say back when I started reviewing this title I was begging for it to continue and I think the good folks at Heavy Metal heard me and we are going to get more of The Paybacks. Â This issue is full of action and the narration portions will crack you up. Â Donny Cates and Eliot Rahal crushed this series, which is in the top 5 of all the books I’ve had the pleasure of reading, collecting or reviewing in 2016.
Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe and Taylor Esposito as the art team continued to be rock stars! Â The characters maintained their style from issue one and each character is treated as the star of this rag-tag team up. Â Colors, backgrounds, shadows, nothing feels neglected. Â If you haven’t deduced; I am a MASSIVE fan of this book and more importantly this team. Â My next request to Heavy Metal is keep this group together and kindly take my money.
