REVIEW: The Paybacks No. 3
I am running out of descriptors for how much I like this series. Â Cates and Rahal have created a very unique universe of characters. Â The characters, like all the greats, are terribly flawed and so fun to read. Â I have an ear to ear grin on every page. Â This issue picks up with Bloodpouch out-of-bounds looking for Miss Adventure, who is now with Veronica Hart. Â The remainder of the team is combing the vastness of The Van to question Mr. Pierce on Doctor Blaqk’s disappearance.
I have literal laugh out loud moments on every #PaybacksFacts page, especially the High Guard description!  The script team shocks a plenty in this issue and I will not completely spoil, but we get to see the high-tech method employed by Veronica to remove the explosives in Zoe.  Readers also get to see Jacob Destruction’s parents and we creep ever closer to the Mr. Pierce reveal.  Driver delivers with limited panel time as well.
Geoff Shaw and Dee Cunniffe bring the action and emotion as they have in each issue. Â Nothing is inconsequential in this team’s art. Â I spend extra time with this book every time just to peep the details. Â Inks and colors have never been second chair in this series but the “Fear” pages were fecking outstanding!!!!! Â If you are not picking this series up you are missing out and I hope a trade will follow the completion of the series. Â Heavy Metal needs The Paybacks!
