Review: The Punisher #11
Synopsis:
The Punisher tracked down Baron Zemo in the Hydra nation of Bagalia. As he was approaching the Baron’s tower. He was confronted by his arch-nemesis, Jigsaw. Jigsaw was sent by Baron Nemo to stop him. But when he failed to destroy Frank Castle, he took a different approach. He kidnapped Sister Mercy, who helped Frank while in prison. Jigsaw took off with Mercy on his bike!
The Creative Team:
Matthew Rosenberg opens this issue with our anti-hero in hot pursuit of Mercy’s kidnappers. In an act of desperation, they throw her off the bike in order to try and slow Frank Castle down. But that only pisses him off more! The Punisher doesn’t stop until either you or him are dead. Jigsaw knows this and wonders if he’s bitten off more than he can chew this time. Rosenberg manages to create an adrenalin pumping issue full of excitement and action-packed thrills. A nonstop roller coaster ride that delivers the goods. Great stuff includes the Punisher in full attack mode as his bike races toward its goal and Zemo’s attempt to flee the crazed gunman.
Szymon Kudranski knows how to accentuate the writer’s speed rush with excellent use of angles and panels. Motion lines abound as we’re taken along on this thrill ride and he makes it all look so easy too. His style makes this chase scene of an issue well worth the read. The action is relentless and doesn’t slow down one iota. highlights include The Punisher chasing an airplane on a motorcycle and the plane crash.
In Conclusion:
I haven’t seen this much action in a Marvel comic in a long time. It’s exciting to see Frank Castle as a relentless assassin once again. His badassery is what we’ve been waiting for, for a long time. There’s only so much contemplating and pondering that a Punisher fan can put up with. Oh, we know that exposition is important to tell the story, but a great Punisher story, like a great James Bond film, only uses the story as a plot device to deliver the action, and this issue delivers in grand style! ***1/2 (8.8 rating)
