Review: The Space Heists of Vyvy and Qwerty #2

In the last issue of Vyvy and Qwerty #1, we meet our protagonist as they just finished their latest heist; stealing the genitals of a Sun God of the Plant Enkento for their benefactor Mitch Fontaine.Â After completion of the mission, they set off to find the sentient plant Marcus Sunblazer, who is the last person to have seen Qwerty’s Robotic Engineer…and also his ex.Â They find him, but shortly after he is gunned down inside the club by robotic assassins, but fortunately he did disclose Father-ton’s position…NuEarth

In the current issue of Vyvy and Qwerty #2, There’s is a narrative inside of Vyvy and Qwerty that is boiling down deep inside, I just can’t put my finger on it without spoilers but if I were pinned down and had to make it it goes something like this.

An Intergalactic religious artifact thief (Vyvy)takes time off from doing dirty jobs for her creepy boss, to go get her sassy robotic assistant (Qwerty) re-calibrated, by his creepy, prepper, hermit inventor (Fatherton), accompanied by the clone of the inventor’s ex who just happens to be a plant(Max SunClave).

The cross talk between Vyvy and Qwerty is entertaining. Qwerty is the perfect set-up man and Vyvy keeps knocking them down.Â Qwerty does get his own jokes in, but the Robo-phobic joke might wear a little thin later on.

Art: Carlos Trigo does a really good job, despite having to take on some challenging action panels.Â Niall Prensall displayeds in issue #2 that he definitely knows when to insert the action.Â Aside from the rampant robotic destruction, One of the National Monuments on guard with a Gatling gun is a stunning image and should have been the cover image; however, there were some panels that included facial expressions that were just terrible and didn’t add to the story. In particular I am referring to some of the closeups where it was difficult to differentiate between teeth and lips.

Character Designs: The character are recognizable and replicable from a cosplay standpoint.Â Qwerty tends to remind me a little bit of ROM, except for some smaller details, but we will have to see what the surgery has in store for him.Â As for VyVy: lycra pants, Suntanned boots and goggles is a bit sci-fi futuristic cliche, but still cos-playable.
