In The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #25, we find our amazing hero in the midst of a battle with the evil Robo-Dinosaur Ultron who is forcing a gaggle of puny humans to write code to give him amazing powers beyond the comprehension of our simple minds. You know, things like jet feet, laser eyes and low powered x-ray vision. Oh the trouble!! Squirrel Girl has to find a way to stop him without compromising her morals in the process.
There are few books that bring a lightweight joy to my heart, but this title has immediately gone to the top of the list. This is a hero for the 21st Century. She“s a second-year student, studying computer science and wants nothing more than to do right by the people in her life. She“s very easy to root for. Writer Ryan North provides readers a story with an unyielding sense of humor that is accessible to bookworms of all ages. It“s lighter than most books on the shelf today and does not confound itself with overcomplicated plot points to be debated on internet forums. Artist Erica Henderson and color artist Rico Renzi also do a fine job of making the time I spent reading this issue a joyous occasion. It“s a solid work all around that revived my faith in comic books for younger audiences.
It“s safe to say The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl has broken open the cage around my stone-cold heart and freed its inner child. If you“re looking for an amazing book to give a child or young adult to introduce them to comics, this is the one. It“s fun, engaging, and downright loveable.
