REVIEW: Thors #2

Here we actually have an interesting story taking place in the Battleworld tie-ins to Secret Wars. This issue of Thors, starts pretty much where you“d expect. Following his murder, Beta Ray Thor“s spirit is sent on its way and Ultimate Thor is given the job of locating the killer, which would also so some way to solving the murders of the numerous Jane Foster“s. This is the sort of alternative universe stuff I like. There is enough familiarity for you to recognise the various characters in play, but their situation is different, forcing them into situations we may not have seen before.

Kudos to writer Jason Aaron who is on top form, weaving his story in and out of the twist and turns with aplomb. It“s also to his credit that I am not seek of hearing the word Doom, as I have been in some of the other tie-in books. By now, we know the situation with Doom and it is good to see a book with a more internal focus, at least for the time being.

Chris Sprouse and Goran Sudzuka are on pencils with Karl Story along with Dexter Vines on inks. Between the four of them, they have produced a good-looking book. The lines for the most part are clean and Sprouse“s style certainly fits with the number of faces shown in a variety of contorted emotions. The colors by Marte Gracia add to feel of the book, whether it“s in Valhalla“s Mead Hall or the rain-soaked streets of confrontation.

This is pretty much CSI Thor style. With that comes not just the police element but also the risk of any murder mystery, that being is the payoff at the end worth all of this excellent set up work. I have high hope that Jason Aaron can continue and conclude this story in the same excellent manner he has started.
