Review: Venom #25 (VENOM ISLAND FINALE!)

Venom #25 Bottom-line upfront, Venom #25 has the template that all the comic titles should be following as we gently pull ourselves out of the quarantine. With the main character, Eddie Brock delivering a soliloquy are more like a recap of all the activity over the last 24 issues.

The last we saw Eddie Brock, it had been a few weeks after the Absolute Carnage’s attack on Manhattan, Eddie charters a Quinjet and returns to the Isla de Huesos, to escape the Dark Carnage Symbiote.  As the Quinjet reaches the island, the Carnage Grendel symbiote crashes it and assimilates the Venom symbiote, Eddie challenging it to a final showdown.  Meanwhile, Dylan who suffers from nightmares of Knull, somehow builds a portal to Eddies location. Dylan reveals that he has powers and they confront Carnage together.

The thing that makes this issue a “must purchase”“ Eddie eventually links up with The Avengers, whereby he gives a glimpse of the future in a two-page spread. There are all types of weird stuff going on. There is a Venom-War-Machine, though it is not clear who is in the suit.  The Maker has opened a portal and is staring into the Exoteric Latitude. Kang the Conqueror is there though it is not clear what is happening.  It could be an infection of the Klyntar, the Exolon or even the Phalanx. Also appearing is the Kree with no name, The Wraith.

Donny Cates shared a splash page on Twitter showing a 1st cameo appearance of new villain ‘VIRUS’ & another new unnamed character. So that makes this a must pickup even if you do not like Venom. Especially when you consider that The Web of Venom line of comics is getting a new one-shot with Web of Venom: Wraith.   Though if you would like at little more context to what you“ll be seeing in the future I suggest the following titles: Annihilation: Conquest Prologue #1, 1st Cameo Wraith; Annihilation Conquest wraith #1, First Full Appearance; Annihilation Conquest Wraith #2, 1st appearance of the Exolon, Wraith gets his name; Thor: God of Thunder #6, 1st appearance of Knull; Uncanny X-Men #305, 1st appearance of the Phalanx; Powers of X Vol 1 5

5 stars out of 5 stars. Venom #25 does what a final story of a narrative should do. It gives a great recap on what happened while also giving a glimpse of the future to keep the readers engaged.  The only thing the reader may need to do is decide which cover they want. There are 16 so”¦..
