Review: Weapon X # 12
Synopsis:
Many years ago a secret government program was formed in an attempt to create the perfect soldier. This project was thought to have been disbanded but resulted in creating some of the worlds most dangerous assassins. Some of these soldiers decided to strike back at this organization, which is now hunting them. Logan, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Domino and Warpath are now considered fugitives. They now have an Olympus Group Paramilitary Airship at their disposal and are about to strike back!
The Creative Team:
Greg Pak wastes no time in bringing our anti-heroes into action, but he opens this issue with a little humor as our mutant mercenaries jump into action a bit too soon and chase off…a herd of deer. Then the team, realizing that there’s no action at the moment discuss the possibility of robbing a bank, with Logan acting as the moral compass of the group. But just when you thought this team was going to get a chance to relax they find a group of  guerilla’s affiliated with an old enemy and they are on the attack, no spoilers I won’t tell you who they’re attacking, but this mutant team has to leap into action. Pak brings us a highly charged issue with some comic relief amid the tension, then we’re off to save some innocents as we discover the source of the mercenaries power, enough power to even take on mutant-kind. Great action writing with enough adrenaline to keep us glued to each page.
Yildiray Cinar shows off his artistic muscle by bringing each character to dangerous life and compliments this story with strong close-ups and no-nonsense battle scenes. The splash where Sabre-tooth jumps into the fray is a visual treat and his depictions of the mercenaries let us know that they don’t fear our super-powered miscreants. He builds the action with exquisite panels and well drawn low life’s. It’s great stuff.
In Conclusion:
Pak and Cinar are the perfect team for this title. We see just enough humor injected into the story to keep us entertained and yet when the action finally heats up we’re given a battle where the stakes are innocent human lives. Sabretooth makes a gruesome discovery about their opponents and the secret of their fearlessness the twist at the end of this issue will make us want the next issue ASAP! ***1/2 (8.8 rating)
