Review: Weapon X #13

You“d think that a soldier who been through as much as Old Man Logan would have learned to avoid mission creep by now. His team has rescued the mutants of Santo Marco from the super-soldier drugged death squads. Time to head home and crack open a beer.

Nope. The problem of leading a squad of barely stable mutant warriors is that the slightest thing will set them off. Domino wants to rob a bank. Warpath wants to overthrow the government. Lady Deathstrike – shockingly – wants to stick to the mission.

Sabertooth finds the source of the super-soldier drugs, Nuke the super-soldier mutant who might out-crazy Sabertooth. To celebrate, they blow shit up. Logan seems to lead by agreeing with all of them and leads another raid back into the island“s capital to blow shit up and rob and maybe overthrow a government. Surprisingly, or not, things don“t go as planned.

I usually love Greg Pak“s (Action Comics, Incredible Hulk) stories, but this just seems to be so random. None of the characters do anything for any reason other than trying to keep this plot running. It is like Pak couldn“t figure out that maybe the death squads would follow the mutants up the hill, while Sabertooth doubled back to town.

The upside to this issue is Yildiray Cinar“s (Killer Instincts, Cable, Legion of Super-Heroes) art. He obviously love to draw fights and he does a great job of it. Even when jumping from the slugfest in the barracks to the fight in the lab and the dust-up at the bank the action is clear and you can follow along. When done well, like it is here, it seems effortless, but it is well thought out and designed.

Will the mutants survive? Will Logan“s band of super-healing mutants be able to take on all the drug-fueled death squads? Will the government be overthrown? Will Domino get her payday? Will I care?

Buy this one for the art and meh you way through the plot.
