REVIEW: Wonder Woman #22

This is part four of the Godwatch story arc. It has been eight years since Wonder Woman has left Themyscira.

Wonder Woman issue #22 opens up at a charity event in which bachelors and bachelorette’s are being auctioned and the winner receives a night out with said bachelor or bachelorette. Wonder Woman is up for auction and a bidding war begins for the chance to have a night out with her, and the two battling with they’re wallets are none other than Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor.

Diana is getting closer to the truth of the purpose of Godwatch and who the real enemy may actually be. Will Wonder Woman gain anymore answers to the questions she wants desperately to have answered? Godwatch is a five-part story arc set to wrap up in the nest issue.

Greg Ruka is an accomplished writer who has also written Action Comics, Detective Comics 52, and a miniseries called Superman: World of New Krypton. He has also wrote a few novels that are worth checking out.

Ordinarily I would enjoy Greg Ruka’s work, but this story seemed to lack any real information pertaining to the actual story arc. Everything seemed very obvious except who the villain of the story was even when it was totally apparent that Wonder Woman was being duped, it was hard to tell if the person was supposed to come off as the villain.

Mirka Andolfo is the artist for this issue, she is a female artist which seems to be a rare thing in the comic book industry. She has also done the artwork for a few DC comics Bombshell stories which makes perfect sense seeing as how she seems very comfortable drawing the female figure and very good at it too. The artwork for this issue is what saved it for me, there wasn’t enough action for me but even the slow parts of the story (which was a majority of the issue) looked fantastic, the angles she used really worked well and made up for where the story was lacking.

The only really high point of this comic book was the bidding war that happened at the charity event between Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor. 3 out of 5 stars

I don’t think it was a horrible book, there was just not enough happening. It didn’t seem like the issue was even needed for the Godwatch story arc it feels like DC just threw it in there.
